Next Dorm Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 7, 2026
Next Dorm is an anonymous feed for verified students at your school, accessed with a school (.edu) email address. Next Dorm is built and operated by UpTempo Group ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information.
1. Information we collect
- School email address. Used only to verify that you belong to your campus. It is never shown to other users.
- School and campus. The college or university you select at registration, which determines which feed you see.
- Campus alias. A randomly assigned codename (e.g. "Golden Fox") shown next to anything you post. Your real name is never displayed.
- Content you create. Posts, comments, emoji reactions, poll votes, and prompt responses, stored so the feed works and syncs.
- Reports and blocks. When you flag content or block someone, we store that report or block. Blocking is anonymous — the blocked person is never told.
- Notification preferences. Your notification settings and any keywords you choose to watch.
- Invites. If you invite friends by email or phone number, those addresses/numbers are used only to send the invite. We do not store them as contacts, never reveal to anyone whether a specific person joined, and never reveal that you invited them.
- Usage and diagnostic data. Basic device, crash, and performance data used to fix bugs and keep the app running.
2. What "anonymous" means — and doesn't
Other students only ever see your alias and avatar; they cannot see your email, name, or account details. However, "anonymous" does not mean untraceable. We retain an internal link between your account and your content so that we can enforce these Terms, respond to reports, and comply with legal obligations. We do not voluntarily reveal your identity to other users, but we may be required to disclose information in response to valid legal process (such as a subpoena or court order) or to protect safety.
3. How we use your information
- To verify your campus and create/secure your account
- To operate the feed and sync content
- To power moderation: automated content screening and human review of reported content
- To provide notifications you have opted into
- To send invites you initiate
- To diagnose crashes, prevent abuse, and improve the app
- To communicate with you about the service
4. Automated content screening
Posts and comments may be checked by an automated (AI) screening service before they appear, to catch hate speech, threats, sexual content, harassment, and personal identifying information. Content is transmitted to that service solely for this screening purpose. We may also use automated systems to detect spam and abuse.
5. How content is moderated and retained
- Content that receives 3 or more reports is automatically hidden while our team reviews it.
- Hidden and reported content, and related moderation records, are retained as long as needed to review the report, enforce our rules, and meet legal obligations — even if you later delete your account.
- Moderation decisions (removals, warnings, suspensions, bans) are made at our discretion to keep the community safe.
6. Pausing and deleting your account
Pause. From your account page you can pause your account at any time. While paused, you cannot post or comment, but your existing content stays visible and you can resume whenever you like.
Delete. You can permanently delete your account in the app (You page → Delete my account) or by emailing support@uptempo.work. Deletion removes your email address, alias, notification preferences, and blocks. Your posts and comments remain on the board, fully anonymous — with no record linking them to you. Deletion is irreversible. Moderation and legal-hold records may be retained as described above.
7. How we share information
We share data only with service providers that help us run the app (hosting, database, authentication, crash reporting, and AI screening providers), only as needed to provide the service, and under contractual confidentiality obligations. We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the safety of any person. We do not sell personal data, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or disclose it to other students beyond your alias and content.
8. Data retention
We keep your account data while your account is active. Deleted account data is removed promptly, except for anonymized content (which remains by design) and records we must keep for moderation, safety, fraud-prevention, or legal reasons.
9. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with reputable cloud providers using access controls and row-level security. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect and restrict internal access to it.
10. Children
Next Dorm is for current college and university students and is not directed to anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including California and other U.S. states, Canada, the EEA, and the UK), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise most of these directly in the app (view your content, pause, delete), or by contacting us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. California residents: we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as defined by the CCPA.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by a new "last updated" date and, where appropriate, in-app notice. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
